Surface and texture is a device that is often used to manipulate the picture plain. It is used to echo the subject matter that is being described. Adding texture allows the landscape its own voice and status beyond the remit of humans; bridging the divide between nature and culture by implementing human techniques in an attempt to involve the viewer in the natural processes of erosion.
