Alternate contemporary methods, mediums and surfaces are intrinsic to my art practice as I strive to convey a ‘sense of place’ in my work. I enjoy seeing the play of light upon the landscape and try to mimic and capture how it dances, highlighting the peaks and casting shadows which appear at different times of the day. Incorporating expressive and gestural marks, colours and pattern is deeply rooted in my painting approach.

I hope to evoke an emotional response from the viewer about the atmosphere of a location or place. I want them to be immersed in the subject matter, be drawn in and have an understanding for the art that I create. I starts, therefore, working En Plein Air. I find that drawing on location in an expressive and emotive response to the landscape before me is highly emotive and addictive.
